Anwar mulls legal action against Nazri

PETALING JAYA (Nov 28, 2007): Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is mulling legal action against Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz for allegedly making a statement that he masterminded the two massive rallies recently.

“I will deal with it and I am consulting my legal team,” he said in a press conference after meeting with members from Malaysians for Free and Fair Election (Mafrel) today.

Nazri was quoted in newspapers as saying that Anwar has been trying to incite people to go against the government by masterminding the rallies of Coalition for Free and Fair Elections (Bersih) and Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf).

Anwar said Nazri’s statement was “a desperate statement from a very arrogant and irresponsible leader”.

“I have been accused of so many things. I am now with the Hindus. Before this was (that I was with the) Chinese. And earlier on I was with the Jews … I think the intention of course is nasty. The intention now is to portray me as pro-Hindu or Indians,” he said.

Anwar also reiterated that the repeated denials of electoral fraud by the leadership of the Election Commission(EC) are thretening to plunge Malaysia’s already tarnished credibility into further disrepute.

“We demand a full audit of the EC’s policies and procedures so that they meet accepted international standards of transparency and accountability before the next general election,” he added..
