Bersih succeeds in submitting memo to King

The Bersih delegation led by Anwar Ibrahim handed the memorandum to the King’s secretary at the gate of the Istana Negara. Anwar is accompanied by PAS’ Hadi Awang and Nasharuddin Mat Isa and DAP’s Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng. The organisers are asking the 40,000-strong crowd to disperse.

Acid Rain at Masjid Jamek

The Federal Reserve Unit moved in on supporters of Bersih who were gathered to start their march to Dataran Merdeka and on to Istana Negara. Water canons and tear gas cannisters were fired into the crowd, one hitting a photographer, John Beh in the chest. The police cordoned off Dataran Merdeka and many from Masjid Jamek did not make the march to the Istana but instead “played” hide-and-seek with police from Masjid Jamek to Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman and back.

KL rally roadblocks cause traffic chaos

KL appeared to be under siege today with thousands of police stationed in key parts of the city in the bid to stop a rally calling for election reforms at 3pm.

40,000 protest for free and fair elections

Tens of thousands of protesters massed outside Istana Negara this afternoon, facing off against riot police in defiance of a government ban on the rally calling for clean and fair elections.
