In the Face of Pak Lah's new line-up cabinet,traces of Khairy Jamalludin's influence already can be seen from there with several unhappy senior minister's being dropped in return for new faces that honestly we can't even see proof of their achievement.It make's it easy for Khairy to proceed with his personal agenda of greed and power in UMNO although with denial from the PM.Pak Lah must know for some reason's of Barisan's intruiging defeat is because of Khairy's recognized influence and non-calibre candidates imposed by him.It shows him of Malays as forgetful of UMNO sacrifices for them especially the youth crop of which he regarded as free thinking people that don't think of the consequences.In the curent new cabinet analysis there has been old faces resurrected like tan sri muhammad muhammad taib like him even though he is surrounded by enemies around him.Simple thinking this is a worthy strategy by pak lah to have some old faces around but he isn't quite calibre for our nation is he?We will judge in the end

Here is the beginning of my post. And here is the rest of it.Walaupun aku tidak menyebelahi Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) (malah tidak akan menyebelahi parti ini sehingga ke akhir hayat), atas dasar kemanusiaan, aku membantah sepenuhnya tindakan kerajaan yang menyiarkan klip video/tayangan dalam bentuk iklan mengenai Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Tindakan ini aku sifatkan sebagai satu tindakan bodoh dan kejam kerana lebih terarah kepada menjatuhkan maruah hamba Allah berkenaan.

Seluruh dunia tahu bahawa Anwar pernah melakukan kesilapan. Pemimpin-pemimpin lain juga begitu. Tidak kiralah sama ada di pihak kerajaankah, pembangkangkah atau apa saja.

Berapa kerat sangatlah pemimpin yang suci atau tidak pernah melakukan kesilapan di negara ini? Cukup sedikit. Masih boleh terhitung oleh jari tangan dan kaki. Jangan nafikan kenyataan ini. Sesungguhnya kata-kataku ini ada kebenarannya.

Untuk berada 'di puncak', kita tidak perlu menjatuhkan orang lain dengan cara mengaibkannya. Biarlah kita berada 'di puncak' dengan cara yang bersih dan wajar. Alangkah eloknya jika semua pihak menghadapi pilihan raya ini dengan fikiran terbuka dan hati yang bersih. Tidak perlulah mengaibkan orang lain.

Hari ini, saya yang selama ini menyokong UMNO dengan sepenuh jiwa raga telah mengambil keputusan bahawa saya tidak dapat lagi meneruskan sokongan saya kepada UMNO.

Sejak 1999, saya dan rakan-rakan telah berjuang dengan cara kami sendiri di alam maya ini dalam memastikan kekuatan UMNO. Tetapi hari ini, setelah barisan kabinet baru diumumkan oleh Perdana Menteri yang mana dirinya sendiri tidak diiktiraf oleh majority rakyat secara peribadi, saya tidak dapat lagi meneruskan sokongan terhadap parti keramat orang Melayu ini.


Saya menyokong UMNO selama ini bukan kerana namanya UMNO. Saya juga menyokong UMNO bukan kerana Tun Dr. Mahathir atau kerana ADUN kawasan saya. Saya juga terus menyokong UMNO pada tahun 2004 bukan kerana Abdullah Badawi. Dan lebih lagi, saya bukan menyokong UMNO kerana mendapat projek atau kontrak dari UMNO. Ini kerana saya bukan seorang kontraktor, bukan seorang peniaga dan bukannya merempat mengharap bantuan kerajaan dan UMNO untuk menyara keluarga. Saya mampu dan berkelayakan untuk bekerja dengan kebolehan dan bakat yang dikurniakan Allah kepada saya tanpa mengharap bantuan sesiapa. Saya telah bekerja di beberapa syarikat multinasional sebelum ini tanpa memerlukan orang dalam untuk memperkenalkan saya kepada sesiapa.

Sehingga kini, saya tidak pernah menerima atau mengharap apa-apa bantuan dari UMNO malah saya pernah mengeluarkan wang sendiri untuk menjayakan aktiviti-aktiviti Kelab Maya UMNO yang telah berhempas pulas mempertahankan UMNO dari serangan pembangkang di alam maya di era kegemilangan-kejatuhan Anwar Ibrahim. Semuanya saya lakukan demi kekuatan UMNO, orang Melayu dan kesejahteraan Malaysia.

Politik Melayu sebenarnya agak pelik dan lucu. Sesebuah parti politik Melayu disokong bukan semestinya kerana ideologinya atau rekod pemerintahannya. Ada yang menyokong satu-satu parti politik kerana ibu bapanya menyokong parti tersebut atau kerana semua rakan-rakannya menyokong parti tersebut.

Memang ada orang Melayu yang menyokong UMNO hanya kerana namanya UMNO.

Kerana mereka percaya UMNO itu adalah Parti yang memperjuangkan orang Melayu kerana itulah yang tertulis dalam sejarah dan itulah yang dilihat dilakukan oleh pejuang dan pemimpin UMNO sebelum ini.

Saya menyokong UMNO hanya kerana saya percaya arah tujunya tepat dan pemimpinnya berkebolehan dalam memastikan keselesaan hidup saya sekeluarga di bumi Malaysia. Kesejahteraan hidup adalah penting bagi membolehkan kita meningkatkan ekonomi, memperkasakan umat dan memastikan keselamatan terjamin.

Sebahagian dari masyarakat Melayu pula memilih untuk menyokong PAS. Ini kerana mereka percaya PAS itu adalah sinonim dengan agama Islam. Mereka percaya PAS itu memperjuangkan Islam walaupun ramai di antara penyokong kuatnya yang sanggup bergaduh dengan saya untuk menegakkan Islam melalui PAS adalah orang yang pengotor, kaki dangdut, gila perempuan, makan wang anak yatim dan bermacam-macam lagi yang mana saya sebagai Muslim yang jahil ini juga tidak sanggup untuk memikirkannya. Ada juga penganut PAS yang suka menyindir saya sebagai tidak cukup Islam tetapi di masa yang sama merupakan seorang pelanggan tetap bomoh Indonesia di kampung berdekatan. Mungkin mereka menyokong PAS hanya untuk menghalalkan cara hidup mereka, saya tidak tahu.

Saya tidak dapat menerima PAS sebagai Parti yang mampu membawa Malaysia dan Melayu ke hadapan kerana ideologinya yang tidak jelas. Pemimpin mereka sendiri masih ragu-ragu tentang Islam dan keliru samada cara hidup Taliban itu wajar atau tidak. Lebih dari itu, cakap-cakap tentang memperagakan Islam dan menunjuk-nunjuk Islam sehingga sanggup berjihad tanpa sebab hanya membawa negara ini jauh ke belakang menyamai zaman jahiliah. PAS juga sering tidak konsisten dalam meletakkan kedudukan wanita di dalam Parti, di dalam negara malah di dalam rumah juga. Ramai orang PAS yang saya kenal suka mengherdik dan menengking isteri di hadapan tetamu.

Malah ramai pemimpin PAS merupakan rakan bapa saya semasa di Universiti Al-Azhar dan saya lebih tahu betapa hipokritnya mereka apabila meletakkan pakaian (tudung) seolah-olah tuntutan tertinggi di dalam Islam sedangkan mereka tahu isteri mereka yang sama-sama belajar di Al-Azhar dan juga pensyarah wanita di Al-Azhar rata-ratanya tidak pun memakai tudung pada waktu itu. Kerana itu, PAS saya anggap sebagai Parti yang sekadar ingin menjadi hakim ke atas iman manusia lain yang mana merupakan hak mutlak Allah S.W.T. Walhal PAS hanyalah Parti yang diwujudkan oleh manusia yang inginkan kuasa tetapi tidak mampu mendapatnya melalui UMNO.

Melayu yang menyokong KeAdilan pula percaya Anwar Ibrahim telah teraniaya. Keadilan tidak punya ideologi atau perjuangan yang jelas kerana Parti ini wujud hanyalah untuk membebaskan Anwar dari segala tuduhan dan bukannya untuk rakyat Malaysia atau bangsa Melayu. Hari ini, setelah Anwar bebas, perjuangan Parti ini semakin kabur atau semakin jelas iaitu hanyalah untuk meletakkan Anwar Ibrahim sebagai Perdana Menteri serta membalas dendam terhadap musuhnya dan tidak ada sebab lain lagi. Pendek kata, perjuangan parti ini hanyalah satu perjuangan peribadi.

Oleh itu, hanya UMNOlah yang menjadi tunjang harapan Melayu dan tunggak kerjasama antara bangsa-bangsa lain di Malaysia melalui peranannya dalam Barisan Nasional. Kerana itulah saya telah menjadi penyokong kuat UMNO selama ini dan saya percaya jika runtuh UMNO, runtuhlah Barisan Nasional. Runtuh UMNO, runtuhlah Melayu dan runtuh Barisan Nasional, runtuhlah Malaysia.

Hari ini, tunjang itu telah bukan sahaja patah, tetapi hancur berkecai. Saya tersilap bila menyangkakan masih ada harapan untuk UMNO belajar dari kesilapan empat tahun yang diterjemahkan melalui Pilihanraya 2008, rupanya sangkaan saya meleset sama sekali. Dengan barisan cabinet dapur yang baru diumumkan tadi, saya dengan ini tidak lagi menaruh apa-apa harapan atau kepercayaan lagi terhadap UMNO.

Pilihanraya untuk memilih kerajaan diadakan bagi menterjemahkan demokrasi iaitu kerajaan pilihan rakyat. Tetapi kerajaan hari ini telah sekali lagi menidakkan suara rakyat dengan enggan mengakui bahawa keputusan itu merupakan suara hati rakyat yang menunjuk protes terhadap pemimpin tertinggi. Sebaliknya, kerajaan memilih untuk mempercayai analisis yang dibuat oleh mereka sendiri kononnya rakyat masih inginkan mereka berkuasa.

Analisis siapakah yang lebih wajar dipercayai? Analisis yang dibuat oleh rakyat atau analisis yang dibuat oleh mereka sendiri? Siapakah yang lebih memahami suara rakyat, selain dari rakyat sendiri? Suara rakyat boleh didengari dengan mudah di laman-laman web, blog, komen-komen, forum dan lain-lain di dalam internet selain dari di kedai-kedai kopi. Disinilah terletaknya suara pengundi, bukan di bilik mesyuarat cabinet.

Suara siapa yang kerajaan ingin dengar? Suara pengundi yang telah dan akan mengundi atau suara menteri yang telah dan akan diundi keluar?

Hari ini, setelah barisan cabinet baru diumumkan, merupakan hari di mana UMNO telah tidak lagi relevan.

Saya kini tidak lagi menyokong UMNO tetapi tetap memilih Laman Kelab Menyokong UMNO ini sebagai tempat bersuara kerana saya percaya laman ini yang diusahakan oleh rakan-rakan pejuang yang paling saya percayai adalah merupakan laman yang cukup berwibawa dalam menengahkan suara hati rakyat. Pejuang-pejuang di laman ini saya anggap sebagai barisan terakhir (the last frontier) pertahanan UMNO kerana merekalah lambang pejuang tulin yang tidak pernah mengharap atau mendapat apa-apa balasan. Jika para pejuang laman ini juga telah beralih arah...maka disitulah berakhirnya nafas UMNO dan seterusnya Barisan Nasional (mana-mana dahulu).

Jika difikirkan kembali masak-masak, sebenarnya untuk menunaikan kehendak rakyat bukannya susah. Kami bukan meminta projek atau kontrak atau peluang perniagaan atau jawatan atau kerja atau surat sokongan dari para pemimpin UMNO. Permintaan kami hanya satu iaitu agar Perdana Menteri meletakkan jawatannya seberapa segera. Kedegilannya akan menghancurkan Barisan Nasional yang merupakan tunggak kekuatan Malaysia.

UMNO hari ini, bukan lagi UMNO yang saya kenal. Oleh itu, selamat tinggal UMNO.

That was the advice given by Datuk Mohd Johari Baharom to newly-elected Jerlun MP Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir for calling on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to step down.

Johari, who is also the Kubang Pasu Umno division chief, regretted Mukhriz's action which he described as inappropriate and disgraceful for UMNO nationally

He said Mukhriz, son of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, was also inconsistent in his opinions.
mainly due to his connections to Tun Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as his son and successor

"He first expressed his support for the prime minister to continue leading the government.
"But suddenly he forwarded a letter asking the prime minister to step down."

Johari added that although Mukhriz had not contributed much to development in Kubang Pasu district and had not attended any divisional meetings last year, Mukhriz was picked as a candidate as a gesture of goodwill to his father.

Johari also said the Kubang Pasu Umno division supported Abdullah to continue leading the country.

In Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Umno Youth called on Mukhriz to withdraw his "rude" letter.

Its head, Datuk Japlin Akim, said he failed to understand why the Umno Youth executive council member was blaming Abdullah for Barisan Nasional's poor performance in the general election.

"Mukhriz's statement does not reflect well on his position as a senior leader in the Youth movement," Japlin said, adding that he was puzzled as to why Mukhriz had changed his stand just days after declaring his support for Abdullah.

well here's a quick snip about the history of malaysia's general election and why this one(PRU 12) is the worst yet!

National Front is the longest serving legitimate party administering Malaysia for more than fifty years starting with the Municipal Elections in 1955 in the town area of Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor Bharu where UMNO (United Malay National Organization-Malay based party) and MCA (Malayan Chinese Associations-Chinese based party) had agreed on certain terms cooperating with each other to grab seats in the Members Committee formed by the British government as an accord and test whether the Malays can unite with the other main races (Chinese and Hindus) thus paving the way for Malaya independence in 1957.


After the triumph of the 1955 Municipal Elections, then MIC (Malaysian Indian Congress-Indian based party) had agreed to band wagon the alliance of UMNO-MCA thus forming an Alliance party inadvertently close the doors for Dato’ Onn to be the first Malaya Chief Minister with his non-communal party of Independence Malayan Party (IMF). Along the way, the Alliance had achieved great successes in building Malaysia as a great economic powerhouse and filling its independence. The party itself had experienced a lot of ups and downs and internal contradictions such as in 1969, thus transforming it into National Front party and again endured an internal and external crisis such had happened in 1989 (UMNO was declared illegal), Sabah political crisis and the sacking of Anwar Ibrahim in 1999 (just to name a few).

But for all the momentous outlining that National Front had endured and experienced, nothing can be compared with the elections result of the year 2008. For all the bad records of Alliance party or National Front setbacks, 2008 election results is the worst ever results which had been experienced by the National Front and such factors that contributes towards this worst defeat came from an internal factor within UMNO itself and an external factors which were dealt wrongly by the incumbent government thus precipitating a protest vote by all the three main races (Malay, Chinese and Hindus) against the National Front.

Differences between 1969 and 2008 election

If the year 1969 had showed how much the wealth gap between the Malays and the Chinese race had spark the racial violence which was transposed through the race riot of 1969. Plus the divide and rule policy of the British government for more than 200 years which was later inflamed by the uneven treatment by the Japanese government during the three years and eight months of the World War II, this factors had contributed by the uprising of the existing grudges by the two main races of Malaysia. This problem was later dealt with the understanding that the government with the need to reform the racial wealth balances by not extricate the wealth of the Chinese and give it to the Malays, but by creating a larger economic cake and bringing back the sidetrack Malay race after 200 years of isolations by the British government through the implementations of the New Economic Policy. I don’t wish to delve deep the differences of the economic wealth pre-1969 elections as my topic is concentrating on the 2008 election results.

The Worst Election Ever for National Front

2008 is a whole different matter for National Front. None of the factors which contribute towards the defeat of that party in 1969 anymore contributes towards the defeat in 2008. In 2008, the opposition’s party only reaping the benefits of sheer ignorance of the incumbent government in settling issues arises which affecting the Malaysian peoples. Here I underline the reasons and factors which contribute to the worst defeat ever since 1957 in a chronology manner:-

Bad advisers – Prime Minister Abdullah had been getting bad advices from the beginning of his tenure as the fifth Prime Minister. Such advices had lead to numerous bad decisions by the executive power such as:-

The bad formations of the cabinet portfolios in 2004 (after the 11th elections) which sees redundant responsibilities of the government ministries that impedes the executive branch from executing efficient order or task and confused the government apparatus with their mechanism in catering the needs of the Malaysian citizens such cases can be seen in areas concerns:-

1) Ministry of Home Affairs vs Ministry of Internal Security;

2) Ministry of Regional (Kementerian Wilayah Persekutuan) vs Ministry of Rural Areas and Regional (Kementerian Luar Bandar dan Wilayah) vs Local Council vs Ministry of Housing and Local Government (Kementerian Perumahan dan Kerajaan Tempatan);

3) Ministry of National Heritage and Culture vs Ministry of Tourism ;

The cancellations of the Malaysian bidding for Asia’s Games in 2006 which shows that Malaysia unwilling to challenge human ingenuity of making the games succeed on Malaysia’s soil despite having the first class facilities after the success of 1998 Commonwealth games;

The Foreign Office blunder of apologizing to the Chinese government on the video case of allegedly Chinese citizens squatting despite the true identity of the women after detail investigations which shows that it was a Malaysian lady. The failure of PR to explain the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for such accused individual to squat aim to force any foreign object in accused body or in that particular case drugs substance to voluntarily push out from her vagina;

The terminations of PROTON’s CEO (Tengku Tan Sri Mahaleel Tengku Ariff), despite his achievement in accumulating PROTON’s cash savings and with the building of the Tanjung Malim Proton’s City at the costing of 1.3 billion using PROTON’s own funds without borrowing any single cents form the government;

The cancellations of the double railway electric trains projects along the West coast lines (16 trains/ a day) at 160kmph which will see the integrations of rural area into big cities of Johor Bharu - Kuala Lumpur – Ipoh – Penang – Padang Besar and all the cities along the proposed lines;

The selling of the MV Agusta companies at the price of 1 Euro far outweigh its real market price despite buying the coveted high-tech Italian motorcycle company at the 400 million dollars on the intentions of small engine technology transfer to PROTON to built its own small engine consuming less fuel in parallel with the market demand;

The cancellations of the Scenic Bridge on the Johore Causeway after the projects had been undertaken on the views that such structure development had interfered on the sovereignty of Singapore and the cancellations reimbursement which cost higher than building the bridge itself to Gerbang Perdana that was in charge on the project development;

The desertion of Multimedia Super Corridor project and it’s lost of exclusiveness when areas concerns are unable to be determined lucidly and land that was neglect unproductively. The unproductive e-village projects and un-enthusiast investment on such areas even though such potentials is still high where Infosys that was set up in India at the same time amounting to more than 40 billion dollars;

The stagnations of Putrajaya development projects with the cancellations of its monorail intercity projects and slow pace of Putrajaya development itself.

Tun Dr. Mahathir’s character assassinations by the media – After the Prime Minister Abdullah took over the helm from his predecessor; the media’s had launched a character assassinations campaign non-stop by portraying a very bad image of the former Prime Minister. The public especially the Chinese community feel discontented because they revered the former Prime Minister as their saviour in the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis and the Malays community themselves who remembered Tun Dr. Mahathir as one of the great statesmen Malaysia had offered before feel dissatisfied and disgruntled seeing the unjust treatment of the media towards their national hero.

Tun Dr. Mahathir open critics towards his successor – This factor played a major part when Tun Dr. Mahathir failed to advise Prime Minister Abdullah in his decision making process on certain matters and launched an open critics on how Prime Minister Abdullah decision’s was decided. Seeing such an act by the former Prime Minister, Malaysian especially the Chinese community that was far economic aware feel such critics must at least be heard and understood in an intellectual manner. But again Prime Minister Abdullah failed to understand such critics and advice.

Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar factor - Perhaps one of the major factors which contribute to the worst defeat ever of the National Front party is the ambitious young man named Khairy Jamaluddin. Being cropped up from nowhere, most Malaysian believes this young man is the main factor behind every government decision making process. His relationship with Prime Minister Abdullah as the Abdullah’s son in law and even though denied by Prime Minister Abdullah that this man had influenced him on every government decision making process, but the public perceptions is high that he is the man behind all the bad government decisions.

In politics, where perceptions is much more important than reality, Khairy Jamaluddin perhaps is the most hated man in Malaysia of all time but with his powerful connections and daily image boost through the media put him on the post of UMNO Youth Deputy and he often talks on government policies where the cabinet ministers themselves shunned talking about it. The scandals behind Khairy Jamaluddin is numerous as underline below (just to name a few):-

i. Khairy Jamaluddin was first seen above the rules and regulations or the law by the public when he was officially involved in the politics despite holding professional governmental post in the Prime Minister department which according to the rules he had to let go his governmental post to get involved actively in politics;


ii. ECM-Libra Avenue scandal;

iii. Pantai Holdings sell out to Singapore owned GLC’s;

iv. The cancellations of Scenic Bridge projects;

v. The personal passing hand to hand of Former Deputy Prime Minister passport when Anwar Ibrahim was freed by the Malaysian court;

vi. Much publicised his MyTeam football team which was sponsored by Scomi;

vii. Peoples perceptions on his personal influences and involvement in any government decisions and contracts awards;

viii. Peoples perceptions on his personal involvement in the naming of the 2008 National Fronts UMNO elections candidates;

ix. The usage of UMNO owned media companies to boost Khairy’s own image through daily exposure of his personal activities and views regarding governmental policies and decisions despite no cabinet post portfolio vested when he is only holding the political post of UMNO Youth Deputy;

x. Khairy’s numerous blunder’s remarks against the oppositions leaders such as to PAS spiritual leader Nik Aziz Nik Mat challenging him to take back particular views regarding certain matters or law action will taken but at the end nothing happens;

xi. Khairy’s personal racist sentiments remarks against the Chinese community when there is no issues to be raised so that he will be seen as the saviour of the Malay based community;

xii. Khairy’s incorrect remarks on the New Economic Policy whereas such policies had already over in 1990 and was replaced by the New Development Policy and Vision 2020 policy. Such remarks on the New Economic Policy was seen by the public as to only boost his image as the championing of the Malay based community;

Complete utilization of the media as a propaganda tools for National Front in putting Prime Minister Abdullah and boosting his personal image more than it should had inculcate a reverse psychology message to the Malaysian that they fed up with such cheap publicity.

The peoples of Malaysia had cast a very clear message to Prime Minister Abdullah to act in a rightful manner. Whether Prime Minister Abdullah will do the right thing to rectify back on what National Front had gone wrong, only he and himself have the answer. Mungkinkah kita tidak perasan bahawa..
Dimalam kemelut yang sedang melanda didalam politik tanah air, kita diserang oleh rasa gundah melihat sistem pentadbiran negara yang tunggang langgang tanpa hala tuju yang nyata untuk membangunkan satu negara dan bangsa dimata dunia. Keadaan ini telah menyebabkan hilangnya rasa kepercayaan akar umbi terhadap kepimpinan negara.

Justeru itu rakyat telah menyatakan rasa tidak puas hati dengan membuat bantahan mereka melalui peti undi pada pilihanraya 2008 baru baru ini. Akibatnya kita telah kehilangan sokongan 2/3 dan hanya mendapat majoriti sebanyak 148 kerusi sahaja.

Desakan telah dibuat oleh rakyat disusuli pula dengan desakan saorang wira umno tulen yang tidak memikirkan kepentingan diri iaitu Dato Mukhriz Tun, Dr Mahathir dengan menghantar surat rayuan kepada Perdana Menteri bagi menyatakan hasrat supaya pucuk pimpinan tertinggi melepaskan jawatan agar kepercayaan rakyat bertaut kembali. Dalam hal ini kita tidak boleh mengharapkan Dato Mukhriz berjuang kesaorangan dan disarankan kepada semua Ahli KMU berganding bahu bersama beliau untuk menyelamatkan negara dari jatuh ketangan pembangkang jika resolusi mendesak Abdullah Badawi meletakkan jawatan tidak mencapai matlamat.

Saya yakin pada pilihanraya akan datang ( PRU13) rakyat tanpa rasa kasih dan cinta lagi pada parti akan bertindak lebih drastik lagi dengan kuasa undi yang ada pada mereka. In 1999, I fight for Tun Mahathir through my AnwarGate website because I was at that time worried that the event unfolding was part of the Freemasons plan under their global strategy to create "The World of Antichrist" or better known as "New World Order".

At the age 0f 24 then and having read too much about the Freemasons and the Illuminati, I was glad to see that the Reformasi Movement finally defeated and we had survived unlike some of our Asian neighbors especially Indonesia. Despite the wave of protests against Tun Mahathir, BN still secure more than 2/3 of the Parliamentary seats and no one had died in any riot.

When Pak Lah takes over the number one post, I have bad feeling in my gut that the Freemasons might come back with another plan. But as I look around the people next to him my suspicion gradually diminished because I told myself there was no one around Pak Lah's cabinet who had similar "signs" of being a recruit of the Freemasons.

All political figures in the cabinet have a profile which makes them highly unlikely to be the representative of the 'the eye of Horus' (the Illuminati Symbol which I found no surprise to see the exact resemblance to the Keadilan logo).

So I closed down AnwarGate and get myself a rest. No worry there.. I mean if they want to create another ‘Anwar’ then it'll probably take a lifetime for another ‘fake politician’ to position himself as the 2nd man of UMNO like what Anwar had done..

Then came Khairy Jamaluddin.. Spending most of his life in outside Malaysia and only been here for a couple of years.

I have to tell you though, I have to give credit where credit is due. Where Anwar has failed in a slim margin, Khairy has succeed in flying colors. Who would think that simply by marrying a PM's daughter will provide a speedier and simpler way to put his self 2nd to the highest office in this nation?

It took almost like a lifetime for Anwar to place himself as major player in the government, but it only took only a few years for Khairy to virtually put himself as the ‘ruler by proxy’ in Putrajaya.

If any Freemasons out there reading this, then I do say my hat off to you guys. You guys have done your homework studying the strongest and weakest point of our Prime Minister and your million dollars investment in studying Human Science is finally paying off in Malaysia. The Freemason’s symbol of “the all seeing eye” represents the description of the antichrist they are waiting to take the throne and rule all human beings. The ‘eye’ is singular in nature which fits the description of our own Quranic version of “Dajal Bermata Satu”.

Have you heard the popular phrase of “selling your soul to the devil”? Well actually you can’t sell your soul or go to hell on contractual basis because only God shall judge us of our next place in the afterlife. Even PAS and MCA symbol I can easily relate to compared to Keadilan.

To all my fellow friends in UMNO / BARISAN,

Should we decided to support the notion that Pak Lah should step down from cabinet to save what is left of UMNO today, we must make sure that whatever we do must not aggravate the division in UMNO should Pak Lah refuse to step down. We have to make clear the boundaries of which our conduct and manners shall be dictated.

Since we had already agreed that the roots of the problem is Pak Lah and his son in law Khairy. Then we should avoid hurting too many people which shall caused further division amongst us.

Our top priority at the time being is to politely request Pak Lah to step down voluntarily and not the whole administration. If we bash too many people at the same time then we will risk a “civil war” between all UMNO members and possibly causing division amongst all BN party components.

If we failed to observe our manners, this movement which is now intended to save UMNO will instead act as a catalyst in destroying UMNO. And if we don’t watch our mouth, then we might accidentally touches others sensitivities which can lead to racial tensions.

So please practice proper ethics when discussing or promoting our ideas to others. The idea behind this movement is noble. Should we be able to use our brain rather than our brawn, God willing then that no Freemasons can manipulate us to serve their own agenda.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — Some Malaysian ruling party members are mounting an Internet campaign demanding the prime minister's resignation after massive losses in national elections over the weekend.

The initiative is an indication of brewing dissent against Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, who has repeatedly insisted he will not step down and that he commands the loyalty of most members of his dominant United Malays National Organization.

A popular Web site called Maya Kmu Dot Net sought support this week for a petition urging Abdullah to "resign voluntarily as prime minister and UMNO president." Although anonymously run, it is known to be widely read by UMNO members because it features criticism about the party that cannot be aired in regular party forums.

The site says it has conducted a poll in which some 90 percent of more than 2,500 respondents so far say Abdullah should quit.

Mohamad Noh Zainudin, an UMNO grass-roots official who pledged support for the petition, said Thursday that Abdullah must shoulder the blame for "the government's poor image, which caused the bad results" in Saturday's general elections.

"At the grassroots level, there is a feeling that the prime minister should step down," Mohamad Noh, an UMNO branch official in northern Perak state, told The Associated Press. "The senior leaders cannot express this because there is a culture of not speaking out."

Top party leaders have backed Abdullah, saying no one is solely responsible for election results that saw the long-ruling government lose its two-thirds parliamentary majority for the first time since 1969 despite winning enough seats to remain in power.

UMNO, whose members are from the ethnic Malay Muslim majority, forms the backbone of the governing National Front coalition. The election results were the worst ever for the 14-party coalition, which only retained control of eight of Malaysia's 13 states.

Abdullah took his oath of office Monday to remain prime minister for another five-year term. Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak said this week that UMNO leaders would reject any calls for Abdullah to resign, adding there should not be "any speculation or effort to change leadership."

KUALA LUMPUR: The detention of the five Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) leaders under the Internal Security Act on Thursday was imperative.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan said investigations into the movement's activities since July had deemed the five to be a threat to national security.

"They clearly have links with international terrorist organisations and they are involved in activities that amount to inciting racial hatred."

He said the evidence against them and the proposal to detain them under the ISA were forwarded to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, who is also internal security minister.

Musa was commenting on the arrest of lawyers P. Uthayakumar, R. Kengadharan, V. Ganabatirau, M. Manoharan and a senior executive with Malaysia Building Society Bhd, K. Vasantha Kumar.
The four lawyers were legal advisers for Hindraf while Vasantha Kumar was the movement's co-ordinator. All were sent to the Kamunting detention centre in Taiping, Perak, for two years under Section 8(1) of the Internal Security Act 1960.

The five were key officials of Hindraf, which organised a rally here on Nov 25 where some 10,000 Indians protested against alleged racial discrimination.

Musa also said the five were also trying to sow hatred towards the government, adding that their actions could spark racial clashes.

He said inflammatory sentiments were being widely spread through their forums, distribution of books and leaflets, on websites as well as through the short messaging service.

"The fanning of racial sentiments among Indians is very unhealthy and dangerous."

When asked whether the ISA would be used on Uthayakumar's brother, P. Waytha Moorthy, who is currently overseas garnering support for Hindraf, Musa did not rule out that possibility.

"We cannot arrest him now as he is overseas."

Waytha Moorthy was also charged with sedition last month, but was released on bail.

He is believed to have then gone to India to garner support there. Currently he is said to be in the United Kingdom.

Musa also did not rule out the possibility that more Hindraf leaders and supporters would be arrested under the ISA.

He urged Hindraf leaders and supporters not to continue going against the government and the law.

"We would not hesitate to take similar action against them."

He also pointed out that Hindraf was not a legal organisation.

Chronology of events

- 2007: Police investigations show that Hindraf was involved in numerous violent demonstrations, including employing the services of secret societies against local authorities legally demolishing temples.

- July 2007: Hindraf leaders give speeches and distribute a seditious publication, 50 Years of Violation of the Federal Constitution by the Malaysian Government at the Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall.

- Aug 12: Hindraf leaders and followers gather illegally outside the prime minister’s office, demanding that the prime minister personally collect a memorandum from them. Hindraf leaders speak and widely distribute pamphlets containing their memorandum which called for the end to Malay special rights and included other similar demands intended to cause racial tension.

- Aug 30: Hindraf files class action suit against the British government for bringing Indians to Malaysia as indentured labourers and exploiting them for 150 years and thereafter failing to protect the Indian community’s rights under the Federal Constitution when independence was granted. The sum sought was US$4 trillion (RM14 trillion) — or US$1 million for every Malaysian Indian.

- October - December: SMSes alleging government conspiracies to demolish temples and completely marginalise the Indian community are circulated. In relation to the planned Hindraf rally, SMSes are sent stating that each Indian attending the rally would receive RM100,000.

- Nov 15: In a letter to the British prime minister, Hindraf alleges that the Malaysian government practises ethnic cleansing and the Islamic extremist backed government demolished Hindu temples.

- Nov 16: Hindraf applies at Cheras police station for a permit to hold a gathering to submit a petition to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II to fund (estimated by Hindraf to be RM5 million) their lawsuit against the British government.

- Nov 16: Hindraf’s application for permit rejected by police as the planned gathering could potentially lead to trouble and public disorder as well as the fact that the application was made by an individual. Under Section 27 of the Police Act 1967, any application for a permit to assemble in a public place must be made by an organisation or jointly by three individuals.

- Nov 16: Hindraf leaders alleged to have given seditious speeches in Tamil at a restaurant in Kuala Selangor.

- Nov 22: Court issues an order to Hindraf leaders prohibiting them from participating in the planned Nov 25 illegal gathering. This order means, that if the gathering goes on, the respondents will not only be held liable for illegal assembly, but can also be cited for contempt of court.

- Nov 23: Three Hindraf leaders are arrested and charged with sedition. Two are released on bail while the third refuses bail and threatens to go on a hunger strike.

- Nov 23: Scuffle breaks out between Hindraf supporters and FRU. A 2,000-strong Hindraf procession gathers behind Klang district police headquarters where released Hindraf leaders give speeches.

- Nov 25: Hindraf supporters damage vehicles and temple in Batu Caves, KL, as well as cause grievous bodily hurt to policemen present.


- Nov 25: In defiance of a court order and police warnings, Hindraf leaders vow to proceed with the illegal gathering and urge all Indians to attend. Police were ready to negotiate with Hindraf leaders to allow them to hand over the memorandum but they were missing from the rally and only attended at 1.15pm, more than 5 hours after the crowds had gathered.

- Nov 26: Hindraf leaders are granted a discharge not amounting to an acquittal at the Klang Sessions Court.

KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested 29 people who snubbed a court order and went ahead with an illegal gathering at the Parliament House yesterday.

They were detained after they showed up to submit a Bersih memorandum to protest against the Constitution (Amendment) Bill to extend Election Commission members’ retirement age from 65 to 66.

> Parti Keadilan Rakyat, PAS and Parti Socialist Malaysia leaders were among those arrested at Parliament House.

> The Dewan Rakyat passed the Bill yesterday with more than a two-thirds majority after Opposition MPs staged a walkout.

> Seventeen of those arrested were released on police bail and the rest freed unconditionally.

Elsewhere, Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) legal adviser P. Uthayakumar was charged and detained over alleged seditious offences.

In 1950, all States and interested organizations were invited by the General Assembly to observe 10 December as Human Rights Day (resolution 423(V)).

The Day marks the anniversary of the Assembly's adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. Over the years, a whole network of human rights instruments and mechanisms has been developed to ensure the primacy of human rights and to confront human rights violations wherever they occur.

MOSCOW (Reuters) - President Vladimir Putin's party scored a landslide win in Russia's election, results showed on Monday, but the opposition vowed to challenge an outcome that could help Putin keep a grip on power after he leaves office.

In the first foreign reaction, the White House urged Russia to investigate opposition claims of widespread ballot-rigging in the vote which, according to incomplete official results, gave Putin's United Russia party more than 60 percent of the vote.

The Kremlin hailed the result as a signal from Russian voters that they want Putin -- required by the constitution to step down when his second term ends next year -- to retain influence even after he leaves office.

"Russian voters spoke in favour of United Russia, thus supporting President Putin's course, and spoke in favour of it being continued after the current president's second term ends," Dmitry Peskov, a Kremlin spokesman, told Reuters.

But the Communists, likely to be the only opposition force in parliament, said they would challenge the result in the Supreme Court. They said they would meet later on Monday to decide whether to boycott the new parliament.

Liberal Kremlin critic Boris Nemtsov of the SPS party called Sunday's vote "the most dishonest election in the history of modern Russia."

With 79.4 percent of votes counted, United Russia had 63.3 percent of the vote and the Communists 11.7 percent. Only two other parties -- Fair Russia and LDPR which both back the Kremlin -- cleared the 7-percent hurdle to qualify for seats.

The 55-year-old Putin, a former KGB spy who is hugely popular and credited by voters with restoring Russia's national pride, has been tipped for a role as prime minister or possibly speaker of parliament after his presidency.

Some observers say he could seek a third term as president, though he has said repeatedly he would not change the constitution to pave the way for this.

Allegations of ballot fraud are unlikely to strike a chord with the majority of Russians who, opinion polls show, respect Putin and want him to stay on as a "national leader." The opposition parties most critical of Putin have marginal support.

"I voted for United Russia because I believe that Putin can help us, simple working folk," said Sergei Ilin, 34, an unemployed man in the Siberian village of Belovsky.

But the allegations could drive a new wedge between an increasingly assertive Moscow and the West which Putin accused last week of "poking their snotty noses" in Russia's affairs.

White House National Security Council spokesman Gordon Johndroe noted the allegations of violations and said: "We urge Russian authorities to investigate these claims."

Europe's main ODIHR election watchdog -- seen in the West as a key yardstick of the fairness of an election -- pulled out of the vote citing obstruction by the Russian authorities.

The head of Russia's Central Election Commission, Vladimir Churov, a former colleague of Putin who was appointed election chief this year, dismissed allegations of fraud. "I think there were no serious violations on polling day," Churov said.

Chris Weafer, chief strategist at Uralsib investment bank in Moscow, said the results were "not spectacular but good enough to allow President Putin to call the shots after (the presidential election in) March."

"He now has the initiative in terms of what role he wants to stay on in", said Weafer.

In Chechnya, scene of a separatist insurgency and now under the autocratic rule of pro-Putin leader Ramzan Kadyrov, United Russia won 99.4 percent of the vote -- a new record for Russian parliamentary votes, election officials said.

Russians credit Putin with overseeing an oil-fuelled economic boom and like his no-nonsense approach, even while many in the West see it as squashing democratic freedoms.

But independent election monitors and opposition parties said officials mounted a nationwide campaign of bribery, intimidation and ballot-stuffing to make sure the vote handed Putin a resounding mandate.

The allegations included voters being offered the chance to win televisions and refrigerators if they backed Putin, and a report people were being bussed around the city of St Petersburg and voting in one polling station after another.

"These are not isolated incidents. The complaints are from every corner of Russia," said Grigory Melkonyans of Golos, Russia's biggest independent election observer.

The result means Andrei Lugovoy, Britain's chief suspect in the radiation poisoning murder of Kremlin critic Alexander Litvinenko, is set to become a member of parliament. He was No. 2 on the LDPR's slate of candidates. Lugovoy denies any guilt.

Litvinenko's widow Marina said in a statement her reaction to the election was "something between disgust and sadness."

{Last week, Kee Thuan Chye opined that many non-Malays have been conditioned to swallow wholesale Ketuanan Melayu propaganda from the exhaustive indoctrination and would probably vote Barisan Nasional again come the general election.

Part 2 of the Q & A continues. The views expressed here are strictly the interviewee’s own and do not reflect the stand of any organisation that he is with.)

Helen: Let’s examine the nuances of non-Malay support for the incumbency. Pundits are predicting that disgruntled Chinese will swing to the opposition this time around. So it may actually turn out that a large percentage of the community will indeed buck the status quo. What I think is that while Chinese are prepared to secretly (they will refuse to tell anyone who they voted for) cast their once-every-five-years ballot in favour of the opposition, their mindset in the remaining four years and 364 days will remain as you say, conditioned: fearful, refusing to engage and self-centred.But given the uneven electoral playing field and lack of proportional representation, popular disenchantment may nonetheless not translate into a diminished BN influence. Sadly true?

Kee: The gerrymandering that has been done has really made it harder for the Chinese to swing votes in many constituencies. I was in Balakong a couple of weeks ago and the residents there told me that their constituency used to be opposition-controlled, but lately with the redemarcation exercise, the BN has been winning.

There used to be about 70 per cent Chinese in the constituency but that has been diluted to about 50 per cent. The other 20 per cent has been moved to another constituency. They don’t foresee the opposition winning it back this coming election unless a huge majority of the remaining 50 per cent vote for them. Many Chinese, however, tend to vote BN.

Surely they can see that BN is a gross disservice to their community? Who are those still so blinkered?

Those in business, those who fear PAS, those who think BN will provide the peace and order to allow them to pursue their livelihood, those who don’t want to rock the boat, those with vested interests and enjoy the patronage of the ruling establishment – these are the Chinese who will stand by it.

The BN needn’t worry about not winning. It would be a great shock if they lost. But I think BN’s greatest fear – more so Umno’s, really – is not getting a two-thirds majority in Parliament. Without that, they can’t have things their way. The Ketuanan Melayu agenda might not be so easily promoted. They will also find it difficult to settle for anything less when they’ve had it so good since elections were introduced in this country. A loss of the two-thirds could spark the beginning of a decline, which in the long term could result in Umno going through what the Indian National Congress or the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan have gone through.

I agree about the two-thirds majority being a matter of standing and ‘face’ for Umno. But what helps BN keep face is the thick layers of make-up that the mainstream media are prepared to paint on the coalition. The Bersih rally is the most recent example of the MSM’s cosmetic enhancement to conceal the heavy-handed and unwarranted approach by the authorities. We can note that one of the reforms called for by Bersih is that opposing views have free and fair access to the mass media. Isn’t an impartial media the essence of a democracy?

Yes, that’s the essence of a democracy. This should have been one of the cornerstones of the ‘101 East’ forum on Al-Jazeera TV last week featuring lawyer Malik Imtiaz Sarwar, the Minister Nazri Abdul Aziz and Umno Youth deputy leader Khairy Jamaluddin. The forum discussed Bersih’s Nov 10 march ending in the handing over of their memorandum to the King calling for fair and free elections.Yet for all that Khairy said on the show about the reforms that have been made by the Elections Commission such as the use of indelible ink, transparent ballot boxes, etc, he still ignored the main plot – how can elections be fair if the opposition is virtually blacked out in the media and the usual airing they get is when something negative is reported about them?

I’m sure he’s smart enough to know that free media access to all parties is the key issue, but he also appeared smart enough to deflect it by bringing up the cosmetic improvements.

Nazri, on the other hand, was far less brainy. In fact, he proved to be deficient at debating. And when he ran out of argument, he resorted to arrogance.

He said, ostensibly without thinking, that there was no need to reform the political system, that the views of civil society didn’t carry any weight. He implied that the government was always right because “we are the representatives of the people”. If the people have grouses, use the ballot box. Which he kindly pointed out comes about once every five years. That’s a pretty long time to wait to air your grouses. Why not air them at any time? Isn’t that standard practice in a true democracy? He said what the public demands is not necessarily right. At the end of the day, he asserted, “we will decide”.

So clearly, as you’re saying, we’re not a true democracy, we’re a flawed one premised on an even more flawed electoral system. And, yes, the BN, for which one can read Umno, decides on everything. But this is not something you’d grasp reading our local media. Is this ‘oversight’ due to over-regulating?

Khairy said the PM had announced that in the near future, the media would be allowed to regulate itself. “In the near future” sounds vague. But more importantly, what would be the real point of self-regulating if the media continues to have the Printing Presses and Publications Act around its neck? As we know, that Act requires all print media in this country to obtain a licence that has to be renewed annually – at the discretion of the Home Ministry. What an effective mechanism to encourage self-censorship, don’t you think?

Well, what I think about the newspapers’ self-censorship can only be expressed in unladylike language, I’m afraid.

Can one blame newspapers, which survive or close down at the pleasure of the Home Ministry, for being cautious about what they publish? Obviously, no. But being cautious and being subservient are two different things. Hiding the truth, choosing not to report significant news because it may be damaging to the government, putting a spin to certain events in the reporting of them to protect the government – these are the practices of the subservient. But is there always a choice between being one or the other? There is, if newspapers don’t get instructions from political leaders or their lackeys on what not to publish.

I’ve written this time and again. Newspapers toe the line set by their owners, who are the political masters of this country or their cronies. Correct?

Yes, many newspapers are owned by political parties, usually through a third party. And this does affect newspaper policies. Even so, the control was not as tight until Dr Mahathir Mohamad came along. Curbing the press and causing it to cower started with him. His suspension of several newspapers in 1987 was a watershed. Since then, no newspaper – indeed, no radio or TV station either – has dared to criticise the PM. It has become a tradition!

But, surely, the PM can’t always be above censure. He’s here to serve the people. So are his ministers. They can’t speak down from their high horse and declaim, “We will decide.”
Nazri is not the only minister who exhibits arrogance. Some of his colleagues share the same trait. It shows in their intolerance of criticism. Which usually results in their inability to handle flak. Then, they get defensive and start saying the most inane things.

One good example is Information Minister Zainuddin Maidin. From the things he’s been saying in the past months, you can’t imagine he was once a journalist. And a former chief editor, would you believe?

Easily! (laughs out loud). It – the inanity – comes with a Datukship.

Zainuddin’s bungling response to the Bersih march is now famous – or is it notorious? But let me first address what he said more than two weeks ago, just before the Umno general assembly, about young Malay writers being used by the English press to attack the Malays. He even named names – Azmi Sharom and Amir Muhammad. I know both of them well; they’re not the sort who would allow themselves to be used by anyone. They wouldn’t write what they didn’t believe. Zainuddin’s remark amounted to nothing less than an insult. He should apologise to Azmi and Amir.

As for his rebuke against Al Jazeera for its coverage of the Bersih demonstration, he will go down in history as saying that there is no point in holding protests because we have elections in Malaysia. How that logically connects, only ‘he’ knows. In any case, there was a protest in Kuala Lumpur when Condoleeza Rice was in town and another last month against the actions of the Myanmar junta. Khairy himself was involved in both. In fact, he took centre stage. And both were presumably issued permits. So, what gives?

What’s not given! Bersih’s permit application was rejected as was Hindraf’s for this Sunday to hand over their petition (to Queen Elizabeth) at the British High Commission.

In any case, Bersih was not disputing that there are no elections, it only wanted a free and fair one. And even with elections, it doesn’t mean that such protests are unnecessary. If the people feel unhappy about the way things are run in the country, they should have the recourse to make it known. One such recourse is holding a demonstration.

I’m not drawing parallels between Malaysia and the Philippines, but if there had been no People’s Revolution, no masses of people taking to the streets to express their disgust for a corrupt regime, Ferdinand Marcos would have continued to stay in power and possibly milked the country dryer.

BN’s chokehold on ‘the system’ from winning every election has made it impervious to recognising the people’s rights, one of which is the freedom of assembly and, as you say, utilising this freedom to protest.

The other day, I was watching Fahmi Reza’s film Sepuluh Tahun Sebelum Merdeka, which documents big demonstrations, big rallies in our own Malaya of 1947. These were allowed then – 60 years ago, when we weren’t even independent. Now we are an independent country and certain demonstrations are not allowed – especially those that don’t belong to the right camp. It’s ironic.
What’s the meaning of Merdeka then?

Actually, I think the Bersih demonstration only made the government look bad after the fact because of the unseemly handling of the situation – after the water cannon used on the marchers, after Zainuddin’s boo-boo, after Nazri and Khairy’s confirmation of the government’s double standards, after the news spinning in the media for days afterwards.

If it had been given a permit in the first place and the media had given it neutral coverage, it wouldn’t have attracted such unwarranted attention. An event that big could not have gone unnoticed. The sensible thing would have to been to let it be recorded objectively. Malaysians would have read it and probably said, “Hmmm … okay, it happened” and gone on with their daily lives. Surely, it wasn’t going to revolutionise their lives or change their mindset radically.

When something is a normal part of existence, we don’t respond to it with extra excitement, we just take it as it comes. That is something that the government should surely realise. For instance, if you ban a book because you don’t want it widely distributed, the banning could actually make it even more popular. People become curious. And so, people became curious about Bersih.

Unfortunately, people’s curiosity will not be assuaged by the mainstream media we now have. Aside from getting a true picture of events like Bersih’s Nov 10, why else do we need a free media in Malaysia?

A free media will open the way for us to speak freely to one another as citizens of the nation, regardless of race. Then, we can have dialogue about ethnic issues with our Malay, Chinese and Indian compatriots and express our concerns candidly. As it is now right now, if you’re Chinese, don’t you often feel you can’t discuss, say, the NEP with your Malay friends – and vice versa? No matter how close that friend is, there will be a barrier.

After all, these are – as we are always reminded by our leaders and the media – “sensitive” issues. As long as we think that, we will be wary of not offending each other, an act that could lead to a loss of friendship. I have a Malay friend I consider to be my brother, but I would never engage him in face-to-face discussion of race issues or tell him how disenfranchised I often feel.

However, if there were a free media and any issue could be discussed openly, we would have a different world. I wouldn’t have that same hang-up. It would be the norm to speak freely. I could have a dialogue with my Malay friends, colleagues, acquaintances. Or even just complain about inequalities. We could agree with each other or we could agree to disagree. They would know where I’m coming from, and I would know where they’re coming from. We wouldn’t be holding a knife or a keris behind our backs. It would be actually much healthier. Better than bottling up frustrations and resentments, as is the case now.

When we can speak freely and frankly, only then can there be a real and deep connection among the people of different races. Despite all the government’s propaganda, the so-called racial unity and harmony that we have now is merely superficial. Polarisation is still the order of the day. Central issues are unresolved. All it takes is for things like the economy to take a turn for the worse and the unresolved tensions will flare up and threaten peace and stability.

There is really no need to fear a free media. We are 50 years old as a nation. If our leaders are mature and responsible, they will advise their respective tribes to be rational and take part in fruitful discourse rather than resort to violence. Besides, we have the law.

One excellent test case was the discussion of Article 11 of our Constitution, organised by the Article 11 Coalition and Aliran. That should have been a forum for rational exchange of ideas. Instead, we gave in to the violence-mongers. The authorities didn’t put them in their place and warn them against taking the law into their own hands. Instead, the authorities pampered them, let them have their way, let them get away with their threats.

I feel very strongly about this, so I’m going to have my say here too. The Chinese are too fearful and apathetic, too short-sighted and self-serving! That’s why they will not stand up for Article 11 and Lina Joy, but compliantly bend to the expediency that she’s a Malay-Muslim “problem”. She’s not! She’s a Malaysian issue, and affects every single of us.

You are right, but there are those who will tell you that if we discuss such issues openly, the consequences may be disastrous. I think they are exploiting this to keep us in line, keep us fearful and therefore thankful for their protection. If we go by the rule of law and our police act according to the law, those who threaten violence can be contained. Unless, of course, they are organised by powerful parties.

To come back to your question: why, indeed, do we need a free media? At the very least to expose corruption, malpractices and inexplicable practices. For instance, a free media would surely conduct a thorough investigation into the case of the Perak state building in Belum that collapsed. To get at the ‘real’ truth. And that’s just for starters. The media should indeed give us a regular dose of investigative journalism, but it would be pointless instituting that when there will always be some party blocking you from telling the truth.

We have heard it said many times before that ours is a culture of fear. Truly, it’s also fast becoming a culture of fearing the truth.

How does the Barisan Nasional government measure up with the electorate? An NST voter-trends survey revealed glimpses of what the electorate might factor into their decisions at the next polls,
IF there were a thermometer that could chart the anticipation levels for the next polls, the mercury would be reading near fever level.

A recent New Straits Times voter opinion survey to gauge how things are shaping up between Barisan Nasional and the opposition came up with a snapshot of how hot things will get.

Most striking was that support remains steady for BN, especially among rural Malay voters, but that the economy was the top voter concern.

Amid rising world oil prices and an increasingly competitive economy, one in five of the 1,024 respondents polled early this month cited price increases, rising cost of living, jobs and other economic concerns as their biggest worry.
Political analyst Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak says: "Many feel the pinch, but their support for the government remains steady overall. To me, this is about people expecting the government to do more to help them so they can continue to provide support."

The average voter's perceptions on the economy, says Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia economics professor Mansor Jusoh, have become more sophisticated.

"They don't judge just by the price of petrol or goods. Many middle-income earners, for example, have savings, either in the Pilgrims Fund or in tradable unit trusts. Drops in the prices or payouts are things they will also feel strongly about."

The other notable finding is that perceptions on the economy differed among the three ethnic communities polled.

Malays are by far the most optimistic; the Chinese and Indians less so.

The survey says this is partly due to cushioning measures such as the May civil service pay hike and the regional growth corridor announcements, all of which impact the Malay rural heartland the most.

Efforts taken by the government to ease the people's burdens are designed to benefit the needy regardless of race.

Examples include the abolition of school fees and allowing monthly withdrawals from the Employees Provident Fund to service housing mortgages.

Still, Mansor and Mustafa believe the ethnic gap in the findings shows there is room to help all Malaysians mitigate their economic worries, especially over any coming fuel price hike.

The economy is the most immediate issue, but it's just one of many that cause voter sentiments to dip or rise.

The survey found a host of other longstanding topics in the list of respondents' worries that relate to perceptions of whether they are getting fair treatment from the government.

To the voter, these issues are like a row of light switches, says Ibrahim Suffian, director of the Merdeka Center, which conducted the survey.

"If the voter turns enough of these switches on, the signal he will send out is that he feels the government is listening to him, which allows him to continue to give support.

"But if enough of these switches get turned off, then it will be harder for the government to assume that the people are with it."

Take away factors like the popularity of the individual candidate on offer, and it's basically a balancing act when each voter decides where to put his mark on the ballot paper.

Ibrahim says: "If things balance out, then the incumbent gets the vote, but if there are too many negatives, then the voter will decide to send a signal to the government to address the imbalance."

There's been a marked growth recently of the secondary "political issues", each competing for the electorate's attention: mounting opposition allegations of corruption and government mismanagement, issues related to race and religious rights, questions on the judiciary and the Bersih and Hindraf rallies. A sign, perhaps, of how imminent the polls may be.

How then, have things shaped up between BN and opposition?

Basically, the survey found that Malay support overall remains stable in favour of the ruling coalition.

Significant portions of the Chinese and Indian respondents, though, want to see a stronger opposition in parliament.

Political analyst Ong Kian Ming says: "From the opinion surveys and the Sarawak state elections, I anticipate that the Chinese-based BN parties will be the most vulnerable heading into the next elections.

"The Malay support for the BN seems to be holding steady, so I do not expect many Malay majority constituencies to be lost by BN, specifically Umno, because of the stable support for Pak Lah (Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi) and the BN."

The possible outcome in Kelantan, where Pas is one seat ahead of Umno, remains a toss-up.

But one important segment of the Malay electorate to watch out for will be the urban folk. .

"The point the Merdeka survey makes is that many Malays are happy with the economic conditions because of factors such as high commodity prices, but these are not relevant factors for those in urban areas," says Ong, noting that the 1999 general election showed that swings in the Malay vote in urban areas could be very large.

The Bersih gathering, he says, points to the potential mobilisation of urban voters in Selangor and the Federal Territory by the opposition. So how the issue plays out in the coming months will need to be watched.

Overall, though, the picture remains optimistic for BN.

Malay support for the opposition, on the whole, has been on a downward trend in the past 12 months. Overall support levels for the prime minister (71 per cent) and satisfaction with the government's ability to meet people's aspirations (58 per cent) are steady and positive.

They indicate a high likelihood that BN's two-thirds majority will remain intact.

It may well be in the margins -- how constituents such as the urban Chinese will vote, and which of the many issues swirling about will intensify in the coming months and survive to the campaign period -- that the strength of the BN's mandate will be decided.

well regarding the two rallies being held twice this month..
i think to congrats to Hindraf and Bersih. If the protest was aimed at fighting oppression, fighting poverty, fighting injustice, keeping peace, then well done because you have successfully proven the total opposite and have shown to yourself why there are oppression and injustice among you all if that scenario even exists in the first place.

You bring violence, you bring terror, you waste your time and money demonstrating on the streets, causing harm and risk of injury to public, wasting the resources placed for building, you destroy.

As much as I will agree nothing is totally fair and just, there are reasons why an individual is treated unfairly and it is because you yourself acted in a way which invites people to treat you so. Despite oppression and abuse, inviduals rise up and be a better person striving to get better treatment. You fight to be better person to be treated better, NOT fight to be a lousier person and expect to be treated better.

It is either the leaders of this protest who is unimaginably smart to brainwashed protestors, or it might be the protestors are just too stupid to know what is good and bad. Either way, its just another stupid act inviting more discrimination towards yourself. So congratulations...well what's ur say?
